What is it?

We thought we'd take a beat to give you the lowdown on what we do!  It can get overwhelming and you may have some questions.  Check out the info below to get the inside scoop on our products, who we are, and how you can benefit from our goodies!

Terra

In romance languages, "Terra" translates to "The Planet Earth".

We wanted something associated with nature that was warm and comforting.  Dylan’s wife chose the name after wrestling with some other options like Apothecary Collective and The Herbal Mercantile.  We settled on Terra Apothecary because herbs and natural products help us connect with the Earth, so we thought it was perfect.

How did we start out?

We are a group of friends who share common passions and interests.  We were unhappy working corporate jobs and decided to come together to create something that aligned more with what we were truly passionate about.  In 2017, we opened our first small location where we began to build a clientele and expand our knowledge.  In 2019, we felt it was time to take the next step in evolving our business and we relocated to our South Broadway location that we renovated from the ground up with our own hands.  This move was a turning point for us - we finally had the space and creative freedom to take things to the next level.

Shortly after our grand reopening, the pandemic hit and everything changed.  We got creative by coming together with other small businesses to organize pop-up markets and outdoor events to stay afloat.  This was when we really started networking and connecting with different local entrepreneurs who were in the same boat -- many of whom we carry in-store to this day!

The pandemic galvanized our community in a way that we never expected but was beautiful to watch and be a part of.  Our success is built firmly on a foundation of our struggle, and we carry that legacy with us every single day.

What do we specialize in?

All things local and natural!

Terra Apothecary carries an extensive herb library, skincare, hand-poured candles by Dylan himself, and an increasingly diverse collection of essential oils.  While these are our primary product categories, the fun certainly doesn't stop there.  We also source artisanal food items, incense, jewelry, artwork, apparel, CBD, sustainable reusable products, and unique homewares to name just a few.  The only way we can really explain our product selection is by opening our door to you, so stop by soon!

Herbs

"Wow... You guys sell a lot of herbs for tea!"

Wrong.

We sell a lot of herbs for teas, tinctures, oils cleaning, salves and balms, baths, and skincare -- to name a few!

The use of herbs and spices has been extremely important throughout history.

Many herbs were celebrated for their medicinal properties, well before more contemporary uses.

Modern science has now shown that many of them carry remarkable health benefits.  Whether you're using turmeric as a powerful anti-inflammatory, peppermint to soothe your headache, mint to keep the mice away, or simply some hibiscus and lavender flowers for a delicious tea, herbs offer an incredibly wide array of uses.  At Terra, we offer an extensive herb library for whatever use you fancy.  We currently carry 64 different herbs and counting!

Essential Oils

Essential oils are compounds extracted from parts of certain plants like leaves, seeds, barks, roots, and rinds. The oils capture the plant’s scent and flavor.

Unique aromatic compounds give each essential oil its essence.

Essential oils are obtained through distillation or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing.  Once the aromatic chemicals have been extracted, they are combined with a carrier oil (don't worry we have those too} to create a ready-to-use product.

Similar to herbs, essential oils offer a variety of benefits.  Essential oils are most commonly used in aromatherapy, but can also be used on your skin.  Add them to vegetable oils, creams, and bath gels or diffuse them for yummy scent, rub them on your skin, or put them in your bath.  Sky's the limit!

We currently carry 15 essential oils and 5 carrier oils.

SKincare

Your skin is important stuff.  Your skincare should be important too.

We have sourced an exciting variety of local, organic, and all-natural skincare products, featuring a full lineup from organic Colorado-based Loves Lemons.  We have all your skincare needs covered from lotions, oils, and balms to handmade soaps, salt scrubs, and even organic reusable facial rounds from Marley's Monsters.

Stop by or shop online to make your next bath a luxurious one!

HAND POURED CANDLES

Nothing really makes a place feel like home like a hand poured pure soy candle.

Oh... Wait a minute.  A hand poured, naturally scented, chemical Free, 100% soy wax & coconut oil blend, cotton wick, 40 hour burn time (75hr/16oz) candle crafted by Terra's very own co-owner Dylan McKay makes a place feel much more like home.

Mic drop

Boisterous applause

Seriously though, these candles are bada$$.  Dylan handcrafts the scents himself using a variety of our essential oils.  Dylan makes 9oz candles and 16oz prayer candles in unique and enticing scents like Cactus Jade, Dragon's Blood Resin, and Sea Salt Orchid.  Even if you hated candles, (weirdo), you have to admit, you'd snag one just for the name.

Dylan would love to answer any questions you may have about his process, his scents and their aromatic profiles, or what might be coming next.  Stop by any time!
